Text Box: A Word From Our President
Text Box: Good luck to all greenkeepers as we head into another summer with little rainfall and restricted irrigation available. The committee of this association is working hard, with every member assigned to a different responsibility.
We are all looking forward to seeing the pro turf book currently being put together by Dyson Appleyard and Andrew Fitzharris. Their efforts are appreciated and they are contacting many organisations and contractors to contribute to the booklet if you are interested in contributing contact them.

Bowls Australia have asked the VGA to submit a brief works report on how to improve the Bowling greens at Darebin in the long term. We have suggested that they confirm if the base is stable and if the sand is suitable for Tifdwarf couch. Then totally reconstruct the greens to improve this site for the future. We didn’t consider using a bomb to blow the place up, but I am sure some people may be keen to suggest this type of option. We hope that some of our suggestions will help improve things there as we all would like to see it improve. (I hope you understand I have not gone into all of our recommendations due to space)

We appreciate the sponsors that have come on board this season with their financial support, look forward to reading their contributions in the sales reps area of the newsletter. Find out who sponsors our association by looking on the sponsor’s page on our website www.victga.com

The membership is growing and thanks to everyone that has renewed so far and to members not paid up, you will receive a reminder invoice with the next newsletter.
Syngenta have kindly donated a new BBQ to be raffled and to be won by anyone paying their membership before the closing date.
We are starting a new forum that can be a great asset to this association if used properly. It can be a great way for everyone to keep in touch with what is going on in the industry. We are very isolated by odd working hours in the bowling club environment and it is difficult for blokes to get away and catch up. Anytime we do gather the friendship and camaraderie is fantastic and hopefully this can be replicated on the new forum.

Some of the committee are interested in designing a new Victorian bowls shirt for the Federation week in the gold coast in 2008, personally I like the one we have but I feel I might be out voted as the boys are pretty keen to have a new look. We hope to have more information about Fed week as the time gets closer on the website.

Good luck for the summer,

Doug Agnew
President.
